In an effort to get to know some of our 2012 Best of Pueblo winners a bit better, we asked Jason Cipriani, your Gold choice for Best Local Blogger, what he thinks rates as tops in town — besides himself.

Q: What’s your favorite place in Pueblo County to eat out or grab a drink?

A: This is easy — Bingo Burger.

Q: What catches your eye on the menu?

A: The Boilermaker. No garden, over-easy, pink is just fine. Make it a combo.

Q: At the bar, what’s your poison?

A: I don’t frequent the bars, but I do frequent my fridge. Usually mixing up a Moscow Mule or grabbing a Blue Moon when the mood suits.

Q: Where do you go for a night out with friends?

A: As a father of three, do you honestly think I’ve experienced a night out with friends in the last year or so?

Q: What’s the best place for people watching?

A: The mall. (I bet everyone says that)

Q: Where do you take out-of-town guests?

A: Bingo Burger (naturally), Do Drop Inn, maybe the Res or Bishop Castle.

Q: Do you have a guilty pleasure?

A: Coffee.

Q: What’s your favorite place to shop?

A: Since I’m into tech, Best Buy is always fun to waste some time in.

Q: Who’s your hero?

A: I don’t have just one hero, I admire and look up to a number of people. Chuck Palahniuk and Steve Jobs are two that come to mind right away.

Q: What’s always on your TV, radio, or playlist?

A: Again, as a father of three my TV is usually filled up with Blue’s Clues, Yo Gabba Gabba or Word World. If, and that’s a big IF, I do get control of what’s on the TV it’s going to be House of Cards or Game of Thrones.

Rev89 is fun to listen to during the course of a semester. It typically starts off with two kids unsure of themselves on air and by the end of the term its turned them into a better product — most of the time.

Playlist? I have a “blawgin’ playlist” that includes the likes of Vampire Weekend, Kid Cudi, Givers, Limp Bizkit, Frank Ocean and Kanye West. It’s a diverse playlist to say the least.

Gold: Shelly Bryant

Detective Sgt. Shelly Bryant is a 21-year veteran of the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office. In 2012, she was named Female Law Enforcement of the Year by the Rocky Mountain Women in Law Enforcement. Highly decorated, she’s received six honorable mention awards from the department, three Member of the Month awards and the office’s Unit Meritorious award as supervisor of the graveyard shift. Bryant was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2007. Her personnel folder holds 10 thank you letters from citizens.

If you want your child to learn how to dance — tap, jazz, clog, etc. — the place to go is the Sarah Shaw Dance Studio, voters say. Sarah Shaw began teaching kids how to dance as a 17 year old when 35 of them paid her $1 per lesson. She’s still at it 50 years later but has help these days from a staff of instructors who are alumni and want to carry on the Sarah Shaw tradition.
